  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 8 oz almond paste
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup sliced almonds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together egg and water in a small bowl; set aside as an egg wash.
  3. In a food processor, blend almond paste, granulated sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Roll out the puff pastry on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Cut slits along both sides of the pastry, leaving a center strip for the filling.
  6. Spread the filling down the center, braid the strips over it, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
  7. Bake for 10 minutes at 400°F; then lower to 375°F and bake for an additional 17-20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
