Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prep Onions: Peel the large onion and cut it into rough chunks, about 1-2 inches in size.
  2. Fry Onions: Heat 1 tablespoon of rapeseed oil over medium heat and cook the onion chunks for 6 minutes until softened.
  3. Make Batter: Whisk together 3 tablespoons of milk, 3 tablespoons of flour, 1 tablespoon of white sugar, garlic salt, and black pepper until smooth.
  4. Combine Onions and Batter: Stir in 2 tablespoons of flour to the onions, then add this to your batter and gently fold.
  5. Shape Loaves: Form the coated mixture into two loaf shapes and coat with 4 tablespoons of flour.
  6. Heat Oil: Preheat enough rapeseed oil to reach 180°C (350°F). Check with a wooden spoon for bubbles.
  7. Fry: Lower each loaf into hot oil, frying for about 5 minutes and turning halfway through.
  8. Drain: Remove fried loaves with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
