  • 1 onion diced; shallots can be used for a milder flavor
  • 1 green bell pepper chopped; can use red or yellow for a sweeter taste
For the Cheesy Goodness
  • 1 cup cheese (Provolone or Cheez Whiz) or use cheddar for a sharp alternative
  • 1 cup Sloppy Joe Sauce can use store-bought or homemade
For Assembling
  • 4 bread rolls hoagie rolls or whole-grain for a healthier option

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • spatula
  • toaster or broiler

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add 1 pound of ground beef. Cook thoroughly for about 7–10 minutes until nicely browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Stir in 1 diced onion and 1 chopped green bell pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes until tender and aromatic.
  3. Pour in your favorite Sloppy Joe sauce, mixing it well. Let it simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes.
  4. Once the sauce thickens, reduce heat to low and add 1 cup of cheese. Stir continuously for 2–3 minutes until melted.
  5. While the cheese melts, slice 4 hoagie rolls open and lightly toast them for about 2 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Spoon the cheesy beef mixture into each toasted roll and serve hot, ideally with chips or a fresh salad.
