  • 1 can Pork and Beans Can be substituted with vegetarian beans.
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese Swap for mozzarella for a different flavor profile.

Equipment

  • Large Skillet
  • 1 ½ quart casserole dish
  • spatula
  • Oven

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, fry 6 slices of bacon until crispy, about 5–7 minutes. Remove the bacon, crumble it into small pieces, and set aside, keeping the drippings in the pan.
  2. In the same skillet, add 1 pound of ground beef over medium-high heat. Brown the meat for about 5 minutes. Add 1 chopped onion and 1 chopped bell pepper, stirring occasionally until the vegetables soften and the beef is cooked through, about 4 more minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium, add in 1 can of pork and beans, 1/2 cup of BBQ sauce, and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Mix everything thoroughly for about 2–3 minutes.
  4. Transfer the mixture into a 1 ½ quart casserole dish, spreading it evenly.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the casserole dish in the oven and bake for 30 minutes.
  6. After 30 minutes, carefully remove the casserole and sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese and the crumbled bacon on top. Return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes.
