Step‑by‑Step Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the BBQ sauce and beef broth, whisking until well blended. Set this mixture aside for later use.
- In a small bowl, thoroughly mix together all the dry rub ingredients: brown sugar, smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Set the dry rub aside while prepping the brisket.
- Pat the beef brisket dry with paper towels. Generously massage the dry rub all over the brisket.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, add avocado oil, and sear the brisket for 3-4 minutes on each side until browned.
- Place the seared brisket into the slow cooker, surround with sliced onions, and pour the prepared BBQ sauce over it.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours, or 6-8 hours for smaller briskets. The brisket is ready when it shreds easily with a fork.
- Once cooked, remove the brisket, slice or shred, and mix it back into the BBQ sauce before serving.

Notes
Allow the brisket to rest for a few minutes after cooking to retain moisture before slicing.
