- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bring salted water to a rolling boil, add lasagna noodles, and cook until al dente (about 8-10 minutes). Drain and lay flat on a kitchen towel.
- Combine ricotta cheese, beaten egg, half of the grated Parmesan, chopped basil, salt, and black pepper in a mixing bowl. Stir until smooth.
- Pour marinara sauce into a medium bowl. Add optional spices if desired.
- Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of the baking dish. Layer three noodles, half of the ricotta mixture, shredded mozzarella, and more marinara sauce.
- Repeat layering with remaining ingredients, ending with noodles, marinara, mozzarella, and the rest of the grated Parmesan.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
- Allow the lasagna to rest for at least 15 minutes before serving.
